Aki Suspended For Three Matches

Connacht’s talismanic centre Bundee Aki faced a disciplinary panel today via video link after a misconduct complaint was made against him by the disciplinary officer of PRO12 Rugby.

The complaint referred to Bundee Aki’s behaviour to and remarks directed towards referee Ian Davies during and immediately after the GUINNESS PRO12 round 20 fixture between Connacht and Leinster in Galway on Saturday, April 15.

Those actions were deemed to constitute misconduct under the tournament’s disciplinary rules, in particular pursuant to the clauses set out in section 3.

Aki admitted to the charge of misconduct and the disciplinary panel, chaired by Roger Morris with Simon Thomas as wing (both Wales), agreed upon a sanction of a three-match suspension.

Aki, who can return to play on Monday, May 22, was reminded of his right to appeal. The ban means the 27-year-old will miss Connacht’s final two regular season games against Scarlets (April 29) and Munster (May 6) as well as their Champions Cup qualification play-off against Aviva Premiership or Top 14 opposition (May 19-21).

If Pat Lam’s men win that away play-off fixture in England or France, Aki’s season will not be over and he will be available to line out in the play-off final (May 26-28).
