Forward Trio Ruled Out Of Leinster’s League Opener

After training in UCD today, Leinster head coach Leo Cullen has reported no major injury concerns from last Friday’s pre-season game against Moseley RFC.

However, ruled out of the first GUINNESS PRO12 game of the year against Edinburgh are forwards Ed Byrne, Mick Kearney and Rhys Ruddock.

Young prop Byrne ruptured his patellar tendon in the early minutes of the second half against Ulster in the first of Leinster’s pre-season friendlies. He had his operation on Friday of last week. The operation was a success and while it was the same knee that kept him out for the second half of last season with an ACL injury, both are not connected and he is expected to make a full recovery.

Ruddock and Kearney continue their rehab from arm and foot injuries respectively but are getting closer to a return to action.

The Leinster team to face Edinburgh this Friday night in the opening round of the GUINNESS PRO12 (kick-off 7.35pm) will be announced at midday on Thursday on www.leinsterrugby.ie.
