This year’s Limerick World Club Se7ens is even more special with the inclusion of not one but all four of the Irish provinces.

Anthony Eddy, IRFU Director of Rugby Sevens, explained: “The development of Sevens rugby is a key priority for the IRFU and it is a wonderful opportunity to showcase the best of Irish Sevens against some of the world’s strongest sides.

“The Rio Olympics are just around the corner and events such as the Limerick World Club Se7ens provides Irish rugby supporters the opportunity to experience high quality Sevens first hand and also provides the opportunity for our players to continue to develop and gain valuable sevens experience.”

Represented at the tournament will be teams from both the northern and southern Hemispheres. Teams will include reigning champions Daveta Fiji (pictured below), who will return to defend their Limerick World Club Se7ens title, along with 2014 Twickenham 7s champions Buenos Aires and one of South Africa’s leading provincial Sevens teams.

“We are thrilled to have the four provincial teams take part in this year’s Limerick World Club Se7ens tournament and with the growing popularity of Sevens in Ireland along with the upcoming addition of Sevens in the 2016 Olympics in Rio, it is an honour for the Limerick World Club Se7ens team to showcase the very best that Ireland has to offer,” said Maeve Moriarty, General Manager, Limerick World Club Se7ens.

Eoghan Prendergast, CEO of Limerick Marketing, commented: “We are delighted to be working again this year with Limerick World Club Se7ens and welcoming the teams and their supporters to Limerick.

“We are particularly delighted that, in partnership with Limerick World Club Se7ens, we will be highlighting Limerick’s wonderful and long-standing love affair with sport across a wide of range of TV audiences around the world.

“This event will deliver significant economic and social benefits to Limerick city and county and will give us hugely valuable and positive international exposure, as sports tourism continues to be a significant contributor to the Irish economy.

“As the European City of Sport in 2011, Limerick continues to lead from the front in terms of sports tourism and benefiting from being such a passionate, enjoyable and professionally run location for major sports festivals & events.”

The city of Limerick and Thomond Park Stadium will be a hive of activity for the two days of the Limerick World Club Se7ens with attractions for families, party lovers, rugby fans or for those who are just looking for a great way to finish off the summer holiday period.
