Leinster Issue Squad Update Ahead Of Edinburgh Game

After training in UCD this afternoon, Leinster head coach Matt O’Connor has issued a squad update ahead of Saturday’s visit to Edinburgh in the GUINNESS PRO12.

As reported after the Benetton Treviso game last Friday, Cian Healy has come through his neck surgery and the surgeon is very happy with his immediate prognosis. The Ireland prop is due to start his rehab in two to three weeks and provided there are no issues, he is expected to be fit for the Rugby World Cup in the autumn.

Richie Murphy, who is part of both the Leinster and Ireland coaching teams, said: “Cian should play some part in those (warm-up) games (in August and September). It depends. Once he starts rehab, we will get a better idea of where he is.

“The state of play at the moment is that they are very happy with how the operation went and that he has got some pain relief already.”

Meanwhile, Darragh Fanning has been ruled out of selection for this weekend’s clash with Edinburgh having picked up a slight injury to his right wrist. The winger will undergo surgery later this week, but he is expected to be back in six weeks and in time for pre-season training.

Gordon D’Arcy and his wife Aoife are expecting their first child this week and as a result he is unlikely to be available for the round 22 fixture at BT Murrayfield.
