IRFU Appoint Willie Ruane As New Connacht Rugby CEO

The IRFU are pleased to announce that Willie Ruane has been appointed to the position of CEO for Connacht Rugby and will take up the post this summer.

Willie Ruane played rugby for Connacht in the late 1990s and also represented Ireland at Colleges and Under-21 Level.

The Mayo native has been working in the banking sector for the past 15 years and takes the role in Connacht after being a director within Ulster Bank’s business restructuring division.

On the field, Connacht have made steady progress under the stewardship of head coach Pat Lam and have announced a number of exciting and high profile signings for the forthcoming season such as former All Black Mils Muliaina and Bundee Aki from the Chiefs.

IRFU Chief Executive Philip Browne commented: “We are delighted to appoint a person of Willie’s calibre and experience. It is both an exciting and challenging time for provincial rugby in Ireland with new European competitions and a revitalised PRO12.
