Club And School Coaches Avail Of Connacht’s Observation Day

A group of 24 club and school coaches arrived at a sun-drenched Sportsground on Tuesday to observe the Connacht squad training ahead of the big derby clash with Munster at the weekend.

The Observation Day, which was organised by Connacht Coach Development Officer Cory Brown, saw amateur coaches invited from all five counties to witness up close and personal a typical training day for a professional rugby squad.

All 24 coaches took part in team meetings, video analysis, skills, units and team training and the day ended with a Q&A and discussion with Connacht head coach Pat Lam.

The feedback from all coaches in attendance was very positive in terms of coach development.

They all learnt a lot from being up close with the players and coaches and observing different skills and drills.

At the conclusion of the session, Pat Lam commented: “It was a great day for all involved having so many different coaches from all around the province up with us.

“It’s so important that we keep striving to grow the game in the west of Ireland and days like this, I feel, are important in the development of all those volunteers who get up early on Saturday mornings or are out in their schools with young kids playing the game.

“Of course, we, as professional coaches, wouldn’t be where we are today without the guidance and teaching we received throughout our careers.

“The passing on of knowledge is central to everything we do. We continue to learn more and develop every day at Connacht Rugby.”
