Fitzgerald Suffers Another Injury Blow
The Leinster squad trained in UCD on Bank Holiday Monday ahead of their RaboDirect PRO12 clash with Glasgow Warriors at the RDS on Saturday (kick-off 7.45pm).
After a brief hiatus in the campaign over recent weeks, Leinster are gearing up for a busy two months starting with the visit of the league leaders this weekend and Ulster the following Saturday in matches that are likely to be sell-outs.
It has been confirmed that Luke Fitzgerald ruptured his anterior cruciate ligament during Ireland’s RBS 6 Nations loss to Italy last Saturday. He will require surgery once the swelling settles down, meaning that he is likely to miss the rest of the season.
The province’s management are pleased to welcome back experienced trio Kevin McLaughlin, Isa Nacewa and Heinke van der Merwe after missing the four victories over the Six Nations period and they could be joined by some of the internationals who were involved with the Ireland squad.
Second row Quinn Roux successfully came through last week’s ‘A’ team outing against Munster ‘A’ in Limerick after missing almost four months with a shoulder injury.
Gordon D’Arcy continues to make good progress with the foot injury which sidelined him for the last month and the influential centre is expected to return to action either this week or next.
Jordan Coghlan suffered an ankle injury during the ‘A’ interprovincial friendly against Munster and is likely to be out for a number of weeks.
Boosted by a number of impressive displays from a significant number of Academy players, the province have been on a strong run of form since Christmas and are now pushing hard for a play-off berth after securing 19 points from a possible 20 in their four recent PRO12 clashes.
On Saturday night all Leinster supporters, with support from a team of 20 volunteers, will try to break the world record for the most amount of followers wearing the same team kit in the same place.
The event is being run to raise funds for the Irish Cancer Society’s Daffodil Day campaign to support the amazing work they do every day in combatting cancer.
The charity leads the way in terms of cancer research in the country and also provides much needed support to those affected by the disease.
