Connacht To ‘Front Up, Rise Up’ For Lily Mae

Connacht To ‘Front Up, Rise Up’ For Lily Mae

Connacht Rugby have announced that a percentage of all sales for the O2 Ireland Wolfhounds fixture against England Saxons – at the Sportsground on Friday, January 25 – will be donated to little local hero Lily Mae Morrison.

The decision was made on Thursday morning in response to fears that HMV may or may not honour the settlement due to Lily Mae Morrison from the proceeds of the ‘Tiny Dancer’ charity single.

Connacht Rugby have contacted those close to Lily Mae to say that they wanted to help in any way possible to ensure that funds continue to be generated for the brave girl’s battle against cancer.

10% of all ticket sales for the O2 Ireland Wolfhounds v England Saxons match will be donated to Lily Mae, whilst a bucket collection will also be held at the venue on match night – Friday, January 25 (kick-off 7.35pm).

After the match, both teams will sign match shirts which will be auctioned off either on Connacht Rugby’s Facebook page in a silent auction or at a black tie fundraiser that is being held for Lily Mae in Galway on the same night of the game.

All proceeds from the bucket collection and auction will go directly to the Sunni Mae Trust which was established for Lily Mae.

Connacht Rugby’s head of commercial Alex Saul said: “We were shocked when we became aware of Lily Mae’s issues with HMV and we decided that we wanted to help because we are in a position where we can do something.

“Lily Mae is a local hero battling against the odds and that speaks out in buckets to us as a group. Our Chairman Jimmy Staunton called me this morning and it was his idea that we do something.

“That got the ball rolling and we started making calls. I have no doubt that Connacht and Ireland rugby fans will come out in force to support this initiative.”

In addition to the funds raised at the O2 Ireland Wolfhounds match, Connacht Rugby will donate 10% of all tickets bought at the box office for Friday’s match against Zebre in the Heineken Cup.

All proceeds will go directly to the Sunni Mae Trust on the reconciliation of the match accounts.
