Six Month Lay-Off For Leinster’s Wright

Six Month Lay-Off For Leinster’s Wright

The Leinster squad continue their preparations for the start of the new Magners League season with a pre-season friendly against Leicester Tigers in Welford Road this Friday night (kick-off 7.30pm).

Stan Wright suffered a ruptured Achilles tendon during the second half of last weekend’s defeat to London Wasps and will undergo surgery this week. The versatile Cook Islands front rower is expected to be out for at least six months.

His fellow prop Mike Ross is also unavailable for the Leicester game due to a strained calf.

Leinster head coach Joe Schmidt confirmed at the Magners League launch in Cardiff on Tuesday morning that the province are in the market for a replacement prop.

Kevin McLaughlin (knee/shoulder) and Leo Cullen (shoulder) remain long-term injuries, while Shaun Berne (Achilles) is also unavailable at present.

It is hoped that Scotland and Lions forward Nathan Hines will be in contention for selection this week.

Luke Fitzgerald, Fergus McFadden, Sean O’Brien and Devin Toner all successfully came through the opening pre-season encounter on their return from injuries.
