Leinster Prepare For British & Irish Cup Opener

The Leinster squad to face Plymouth Albion in the opening round of the British & Irish Cup on Saturday in Brickfields (kick-off 4.30pm) has been named.

Leinster can call on the services of close season signing Richardt Strauss for the first time after he impressed for the Cheetahs recently ahead of his move.

The 23-year-old hooker is included in the 22-man squad for the trip to the southwest of England alongside an exciting blend of youth and experience.

Fresh from the province’s 31-3 victory over Connacht ‘A’ at Donnybrook, the coaching team can now call on the likes of Andrew Conway, Brendan Macken, Rhys Ruddock and Dominic Ryan who were all unavailable for that game due to their involvement with the Ireland Under-20 training camp.

Ruddock’s brother Ciaran is also included in the squad. The pair lined out together last season for the Ireland Under-20s.

Shaun Berne, Trevor Hogan and Stephen Keogh have also been included in the panel for Leinster’s first game in the inaugural cross border competition.
