The Connacht Women’s Rugby team has been hard at work off and on the pitch for the past few months, getting ready for the Interprovincial series kicking off mid October as they travel to Dublin for their clash with Leinster. Ahead of that they are kicking of their season with a Social night in Bodkins this weekend.
Joe McGinley and Emer O’Dowd have been putting the women through their paces in the new Connacht gym,a first ever for the Connacht Women’s set-up.
Lyndon Jones and Sinead Cosgrave make up the coaching team once again this season and have done some excellent work with them on the pitch at weekends.
Wendy Hickey, Community Officer in Connacht Rugby, has been impressed with the commitment shown by all players this season.
She said: “We have managed to get some new faces on the squad, which is no harm as some of us, especially myself, need to retire at some stage!
“Some very promising talent has come through the Development League, and players from other provinces have made the commitment to travel to Galway for their sessions.
“This should be an exciting season for Connacht and all players and management are looking forward to the challenge this year.”
To kickstart the season, all interprovincial players, Connacht Women’s club teams and anyone with an interest in women’s rugby in the province are invited to join in marking the start of the 2009/10 season with a small BBQ in Bodkin’s Bar, Kingsvalley Hotel, Galway at 7.30pm this Saturday (September 5). €;10 per person for BBQ, all welcome!
