Ferris Named In Ulster Squad

Ulster head coach Matt Williams has named a 24-man squad for Friday night’s Magners League match against Glasgow Warriors, at Firhill (kick-off 7.30pm).

Grand Slam-winning flanker Stephen Ferris makes a welcome return to the Ulster squad, after missing the province’s last two matches due to a hand injury gained in the final game of the Six Nations.

Full-back Bryn Cunningham and centre Paul Steinmetz have not been considered for the Glasgow game due to injury.

The last time Ulster met Glasgow in the league was at Ravenhill last month and despite poor weather conditions, the Ulstermen managed a credible 12-0 win over the Scottish side.

Once again, coach Matt Williams will be looking to gain some much-needed points against Glasgow, especially with only three more league games to follow.

Looking ahead to Friday’s tie, Williams said: “I was bitterly disappointed with our last performance (against the Ospreys). We lost another game we should have won.

“We cannot talk our way out of it, or make excuses for how we played. Once again we were leading, heading into the last ten minutes, and lost a game we shouldn’t have.

“Every player knows they have to put in a performance against Glasgow, both individually and as a team.

“Glasgow are a powerful side, who will be out for the home win, so we must be 100% on our game until the final whistle blows.

“Our focus is to take back the points we lost against the Ospreys and show what we are really capable of.

“This will be a week of solid match preparation. The players all know that they have to stand up and perform come Friday,” the Australian added.
