Humphreys Injures Ankle At Training

Ulster’s former Ireland out-half David Humphreys looks set to miss the province’s upcoming pre-season friendly matches after injurying his ankle during a training session at Newforge on Friday.

An X-ray on the ankle has come back clear and more investigation will be carried out by the Ulster medical team next week. Humphreys’ ankle ligament damage may put his participation in Ulster’s Magners League opener against the Ospreys on Friday, September 21 in doubt.

Mark McCall’s men have pre-season games against Leeds Carnegie next Friday and Gloucester on Saturday, September 8. In between, they will have a training camp away from Belfast base.

Having penned a one-year contract extension last March, Humphreys is set to retire at the end of the 2007/08 season.
