Fun Day Out At Ulster’s Primary Schools Finals

Fun Day Out At Ulster’s Primary Schools Finals

Last week saw over 400 kids from throughout Ulster compete in the 35th annual Ulster Primary Schools Mini Rugby finals at Ravenhill, which were sponsored by Northgate.

The week proved a great success with excellent rugby being played and most importantly all the kids having fun as they sought to take home one of the four prizes up for grabs.

Holywood PS and Christy Memorial PS contested the Bowl competition’s decider, but after a thrilling final Holywood came out on top with a 4-2 victory. Cairnshill PS and St. Comghalls PS (pictured left)were left to fight for the title of Plate winners, but despite a very close game, it was St. Comghalls who scored the only try, winning the final 1-0.

Stranmillis PS and Armstrong PS made it to the Thursday final, but in a keenly contested encounter it was Stranmillis who emerged the winners, taking home the Mini Rugby Shield. The Cup final took place on Friday when Strandtown PS and Inchmarlo PS took to the field, after fighting off stiff competition throughout the day. It was to be Strandtown’s second successive year as cup winners as they overcame a strong Inchmarlo side.

A fair play award was also given out each day, with Ben Madigan PS (pictured below), Clough PS, Ballydown PS and Bridge Integrated PS each collecting awards.

Thanks must be extended to all the schools who took part in what was a hugely successful tournament. Congratulations to all the players, coaches involved and well done to Ulster Rugby for another great few days of Mini Rugby!
