Tag rugby is coming to County Wicklow this summer as Greystones RFC becomes a IRFU Tag Rugby venue. See below for further details.
The Tag Rugby phenomenon has seen huge growth in the non-contact version of rugby union over the last five years, with over 11,500 participating in venues all over Ireland last year in Dublin, Galway, Limerick, Cork, Waterford, Sligo and Belfast.
The growth of Tag rugby has been successful in spreading the popularity of the game of rugby during a traditionally quiet time of the year for clubs. Its non-contact nature and social aspect have made it accessible to both men and women in the specially graded levels.
The IRFU Tag Rugby programme at Greystones’ Dr. Hickey Park ground starts on June 7 and will be taking place throughout the summer every Thursday night at 7pm until August 2. There will be one men’s league and four mixed (men and women) social leagues which will be graded from A to beginners level.
As well as all the action and fun on the pitch, there should also be plenty off it as the Greystones club will be holding social events on Tag nights throughout the season, so there is lots on offer for everybody. The cost of registering a team is €495 and spaces are filling up fast, so everybody is being advised to hurry up and book their places before it is too late.
Looking forward to the Tag season at Greystones, Leinster and Ireland legend Reggie Corrigan, a ‘Stones stalwart, said: “Tag is a great way to keep fit during the summer and is also a great way to socialise with your friends. It does not matter whether you have played the game before to get full value out of it.
“And you are also supporting your local club, which I think is really important. I recommend anybody to get a team together and register now before there are no spaces left.”
See you there for what promises to be a fantastic summer of IRFU Tag Rugby at Greystones!
