Non Contact Rugby

Non-contact rugby takes various forms including tag, touch and T1 offering participants a chance to enjoy rugby at their own level.

Touch Rugby

Touch is a fast paced fun game with simple playing rules. There is no hard physical contact and relies on teamwork and ball skills. It is suitable for players of all ages for both genders and mixed gender competitions. It is exciting to watch and fun to play.

The IRFU enjoys a very successful relationship with the Ireland Touch Association (ITA).  We collaborate closely on a number of projects to ensure that Touch Rugby gets as much exposure as possible.

T1 Rugby

T1 Rugby is a non-contact game that retains many of the main elements of rugby, such as passing and evasion. There’s also kicking, uncontested (non-contact) scrums and lineouts, so players can use different strengths to contribute to their team significantly.

Benefits of T1 Rugby

• Inclusive: can be played across the genders.
• Gets students physically active.
• Creates team connections, social skills and confidence.
• Opportunities to enhance transferrable fundamental movement skills.
• Easy to teach and referee.
• Can be played on different surfaces: sports halls, playgrounds, grass.
• Chances get young leaders involved.
• Only needs a ball to play.
• Adaptable so teachers can provide challenge and success for all.
• Grounded in the core values of rugby union.

Below you will find information on the basics of the game as well as contact links for T1 Rugby in your area.
