Su Carty
Su Carty is a co-opted member of the IRFU Committee and one of Ireland's representatives on the World Rugby Council. A former player, referee and administrator, Su played for 12 years as a scrum-half, captaining St. Mary's RFC and representing UL Bohemian RFC, before moving into leadership and governance roles within the game. A qualified psychiatric nurse with a specialism in Child and Adolescent Mental Health and a Master's degree in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Su combined her professional expertise with a passion for rugby to become World Rugby's first Women's Development Manager in 2009. During her seven years in the role, she played a key part in advancing the women's game globally. She was also the last President of the Irish Women's Rugby Football Union prior to its integration into the IRFU in 2008. She has also been actively involved in refereeing and was awarded the Alain Rolland Referee Performance of the Year Award in 2017. Having been appointed to the World Rugby Council in 2018, she was elected to the World Rugby Executive Board in 2023, becoming one of the first women elected to the organisation's leadership group. In 2024 she was re-elected to the Executive Board for a further term through to 2028, representing Ireland and helping to guide the strategic direction of the global game
