Friday marked the official welcome to the 2019 Rugby World Cup for the Ireland team, and Saturday saw them hit the pitch for the first time since they landed in Japan.

Speaking about the session at Ichihara Suporeku Park in the Chiba Prefecture, Tadhg Beirne said:

It was good to get the legs moving today and get a good session done. It was stuffy out there but the pitch is fantastic so that made it a bit easier.”

Niall Scannell was pleased to be able to pull the boots with a week to go to Ireland’s Pool A opener, saying:

We’ve settled in nicely, but we’re getting down to the nitty-gritty now with just over a week to Scotland. It’s good to shake off the cobwebs and get our rugby heads on for a huge game. The humidity is a factor so it’s good to get into the reality of it.”
