Moreton Takes Over As Tullow Women's Head Coach

Jason Moreton is the new Tullow head coach
After six successful years in charge of Wicklow, Jason Moreton has taken up a fresh challenge as the new head coach of the Tullow senior Women's team.

Tullow finished bottom of the Energia All-Ireland League Women's Division this past season, but made important strides towards the end of the campaign with their first couple of wins at this level.

The County Carlow club beat both Cooke and Ennis, having also thoroughly tested Old Belvedere, before running out 54-12 winners over Shannon in the promotion/relegation play-off final.

New Zealander Jason Moreton has now been appointed to take over from Steven Hogg as Tullow's head coach, with Gavin Whitney supporting him as forwards coach.

With more than three decades of coaching experience, Moreton is one of the most accomplished coaches in Irish Women's rugby, raising the bar at Wicklow RFC most recently.

He led Wicklow from Division 1 of the Leinster League into the All-Ireland League in 2021, helping to establish the club among the leading Women's teams in the country.

He guided Wicklow to a second Energia All-Ireland League Women's Conference title in April, signing off with a final piece of silverware to add to a Metro Cup, an All-Ireland Shield, and a historic fifth place league finish in 2024/25 with 10 wins.

The Women's Division Coach of the Year in both 2023 and 2025, Moreton was instrumental in developing player pathways at Wicklow, paving the way for a steady stream of promising youngsters to make the step up from Under-18 rugby to the senior grade.

Since moving to Ireland in 2001, he has coached across both the Men's and Women's game with clubs including Rathdrum, Gorey, Clane, and Dublin University.
