Ireland U-18 Schools Team Named For South Africa Game

Ireland U-18 Schools captain Luke Coffey
Blackrock College's Luke Coffey returns to captain the Ireland Under-18 Schools team (sponsored by PwC) to face South Africa U-18s on Tuesday.

The second round of the Under-18 Men's International Series will see Brendan O'Connor's Ireland side take on the host nation at Paarl's Boland Landbou School.

The game kicks off at 3.30pm local time/2.30pm Irish time, and you can follow the action live on the official SA Rugby YouTube channel and the SuperSport Schools app and website.

As they bid to bounce back from their late 32-31 defeat to the South Africa U-18 'A' team, the Irish back-line will be marshalled this time by the Blackrock and Leinster pairing of Luke Coffey and Paddy Scally.

Coffey, who was almost the match winner on Friday with a monster penalty goal, also takes the captaincy reins from fellow scrum half Johnny Woods, having led the squad during Easter's U-18 Six Nations Festival in Vichy.

There are four changes in total behind the scrum, with PBC Cork's Daniel Murphy donning the number 15 jersey, and Joshua Grant from Clongowes Wood College selected at inside centre.

The unchanged pack features St. Michael's College prop Herbie Boyle, who bagged a brace of tries in the opening match, and Dara Walsh who links up again with Philip Lynch in a Connacht-Leinster lock combination.

Originally chosen to start against South Africa U-18 'A', Kilkenny's Cillian McElwee has recovered from an ankle injury to take his place on the replacements bench.

Coffey and Terenure College forward Frank Maher both played against the South Africa U-18s last year when Ireland lost 45-5.

Despite missing out on the result on Friday, O'Connor's charges took a lot of positives out of their opening performance of the tour, which included three second-half tries.
