Departing Ulster Prop Bell Wins URC Try Of The Season Award

Ulster prop Angus Bell with his award
Following up on the inclusion of Stuart McCloskey and Werner Kok in the Elite XV, departing Ulster prop Angus Bell has received the BKT United Rugby Championship's Try of the Season award for 2025/26.

It has been some season for props scoring sensational award-winning tries.

Rhys Carre's unforgettable effort for Wales against Ireland at the Aviva Stadium was chosen as the best in the 2026 Guinness Men's Six Nations.

Now, fellow loosehead Angus Bell has won the Try of the Season award in the URC for his own stunning solo score for Ulster at home to Cardiff in January.

The Australian international is one of the most mobile props in the game and that was illustrated by his prize-winning touchdown against the Welsh side at Affidea Stadium.

Picking up from a ruck some 30 metres out, he broke a tackle before delivering an outrageous sidestep to go outside one defender and then cut inside another to cross the whitewash to the delight of the Belfast crowd.

It was a superb try - a real highlight of the Wallaby's six-month stint with Ulster - and it is the one fans have chosen as the league's best of 2025/26, via a vote on social media.

Bell's belter came out on top of a ten-strong shortlist which also featured special scores by Cheswill Jooste (Vodacom Bulls), Kyle Rowe (Glasgow Warriors), Nico Steyn (Fidelity SecureDrive Lions), David Richards (Dragons RFC), Malik Faissal (Zebre Parma), Wandisile Simelane (DHL Stormers), Dan Kelly (Munster Rugby), Handré Pollard (Vodacom Bulls), and Tom Stewart (Ulster Rugby).

A record number of votes were cast this year, close to 10,000, which is a 42% increase.
