Eric Elwood is set to win his 100th cap for Connacht against Narbonne in the European Parker Pen Shield. He won his first cap for the province in 1989 at the age of 20 when he played in the centre against North and Midlands of Scotland.

In the course of his Connacht career, he has scored 846 points -11 tries, 185 penalties, 114 conversions and 3 drop goals.

Elwood’s eight conversions against Roma last weekend made him the first man to score more than 300 points in the European Shield. He has played for Ireland 34 times, last appearing in the Rugby World Cup in 1999, when Ireland defeated Romania 44-14. Despite efforts from abroad to lure him away he has remained loyal to his province and been a pivotal figure in the Connacht set up.

Elwood is the fourth player to line out 100 times for his province, the others being Mick Galwey, Gary Longwell and most recently Peter Clohessy who won his 100th cap against Harlequins last weekend.
