Three Provinces Represented In URC's Elite XV For 2025/26

Cian Prendergast in action against Ulster
The newly-announced BKT URC Elite XV features Connacht duo Darragh Murray and Cian Prendergast, Ulster's Stuart McCloskey and Werner Kok, and Leinster prop Thomas Clarkson.

The United Rugby Championship's Team of the Season was voted on by a media selection panel, spanning all five territories within the competition.

To be eligible, players must have made nine appearances during the regular campaign, with the panel provided with a shortlist of 10 per position by URC StatMaster.

The player with the most votes in each position then earned a place in the team.

Ireland star Stuart McCloskey has been chosen after an outstanding season for both province and country, having previously made the league's Dream Team in 2018/19 and 2019/20.

The Ulster centre played a crucial role in Ireland's 2026 Triple Crown-winning campaign, and recently received the Rugby Players Ireland Players' Player of the Year award.

Despite Ulster narrowly missing out on the URC play-offs, their South African winger Werner Kok makes the line-up in recognition of his 10-try haul.

Following Connacht's impressive charge to an eighth place finish, with eight wins in their last nine games, captain Cian Prendergast and Darragh Murray are both honoured.

The pair feature in the URC's Elite XV for the first time, and it is a unique double for Darragh, a Six Nations debutant this year, as his older brother Niall was part of the 2022/23 Championship's Team of the Season.

Ireland prop Thomas Clarkson is another first-time representative from defending champions Leinster, who host the DHL Stormers in Saturday's semi-final at the Aviva Stadium (kick-off 5.30pm - tickets are available here).

Meanwhile, South Africa's two semi-finalists, the Stormers and the Vodacom Bulls, provide the biggest contingent in the Elite XV line-up with three apiece.

The league's top try scorer Evan Roos (12) and leading points scorer Sacha Feinberg-Mngomezulu (158) are both recognised for their efforts, along with their Stormers team-mate Ntuthuko Mchunu.

As for the Pretoria-based Bulls, scrum half Embrose Papier and hooker Johann Grobbelaar - who touched down nine and eight times, respectively - are joined by second row Cobus Wiese.

Like Ulster and Connacht, table toppers Glasgow Warriors and the Fidelity SecureDrive Lions both have two players on board.

There are two Glasgow backs selected in Kyle Rowe and Stafford McDowall, with elusive winger Rowe having beaten 52 defenders, made 21 clean breaks, and run for 783 metres in his 13 league outings.

As for the Lions, their achievement in reaching the play-offs for the first time and also winning the South African Shield is added to by the inclusion of flanker Ruan Venter and full-back Quan Horn.

Horn played every single minute of the regular season to pick up the URC's Ironman award for the second time.
