A notable feature of the squad is the inclusion of Caitríona O'Hagan and Rola Olusola, both of whom were identified through the recent IRFU Combines, highlighting the value of the programme in discovering and developing emerging talent within the game.
The squad will be managed by Audrey O'Flynn, who oversaw the IRFU Combines and has played a key role in supporting player identification and development.
Speaking ahead of the team's departure, O'Flynn said:
"Congratulations to all 12 players selected to represent Irish Universities at the FISU World University Championship in Stellenbosch.
"It is particularly pleasing to see Caitríona O'Hagan and Rola Olusola progress from the IRFU Combines into this national representative squad."
O'Flynn continues: “Many of the players selected have also impressed in the recent Vodafone Women’s Interprovincial Championships.
"We are excited about the challenge ahead and look forward to seeing this group represent Irish Universities and Irish rugby with pride on the international stage."
The squad will travel to South Africa aiming to make a strong impression at the prestigious tournament, while continuing to showcase the strength and depth of women's university rugby in Ireland.
