In line with the upcoming changes to the tackle law (9.13) regarding Hip drop and Knee drop tackles, Irish Rugby is hosting a webinar to inform and explain how best to identify and coach these changes. The webinar will have members of the Match Officials and Coach Development department presenting and they will showcase examples of what exactly a Hip Drop tackle is, what a knee drop tackle is, and how to tackle in a safe manner instead.

The law change will come into effect on November 1st 2026 so it is imperative that all clubs, schools, players, coaches and spectators are aware of this and ensure they are fully informed on how safe tackles are made.

Please see below the registration link for upcoming webinar.

Date: Thursday Oct 29th

Director of Rugby Development Colin McEntee said, “We are committed to ensuring the highest standard of welfare for our players and we are always working with World Rugby and the other Unions to ensure we reflect on current trends in the game; the law change will hopefully make the game safer and give clarity to the type of tackles we want to see in our game.”
