Launching in clubs across Ireland during the 2026/27 season, Sidelines to Trylines aims to create opportunities for women within rugby communities to become active participants in the game, regardless of their sporting background, fitness level or previous rugby experience.
The programme has been developed in conjunction with the Ireland Touch Association.
Inspired by the success of community-based participation programmes that have encouraged thousands of women to engage in sport, Sidelines to Trylines has been developed to remove many of the barriers that can prevent women from taking part in physical activity.
By offering a flexible, social and beginner-friendly environment, the programme seeks to make rugby more accessible to women who may currently engage with the sport as spectators, volunteers, coaches, or parents supporting young players.
Cantwell continued, "Whether someone has never picked up a rugby ball before or is returning to sport after many years, Social Touch Rugby will provide a fun environment where women can connect, be active and become part of their local rugby community."
