Building on the success of Phase 1&2
The initiative has already made a positive impact on rugby clubs across Ireland, with 38 clubs funded to date through the first two phases of the programme.
These phases have seen clubs across the country make significant progress in developing their walking tracks facilities, transforming existing club grounds into spaces that can be enjoyed by people of all ages, abilities and backgrounds. From improving walking track surfaces, accessibility and suitable lighting for the track, to creating opportunities for regular exercise and social interaction, these developments are helping clubs extend their reach beyond traditional rugby activities.
Laws continues: Parents are using the track during training sessions, locals are coming down for their daily walks, and it has helped create a real sense of connection between the club and wider community. We have already built connections with groups such as Active Retirement - this track now provides a dry, accessible, well surfaced track for older adults to be active. This funding has allowed us to develop something that benefits far more than just our rugby playing members.”
