Community Sports Facilities Fund Opens New Opportunities for Rugby Clubs

Irish Rugby clubs across the country are being encouraged to begin preparations for the latest round of the Community Sports Facilities Fund (CSFF), with key application dates now confirmed and a range of funding opportunities available to support facility development and community participation initiatives. The CSFF is the Government's primary capital funding programme for sport and provides vital support for clubs seeking to enhance facilities, improve accessibility and grow participation within their communities.

The new funding round will open for applications on Monday, 19 October 2026, with clubs having until Friday, 26 February 2027 to submit their applications through the new SPRAOI grants management system. Clubs not previously registered can now create an account, while organisations already registered on the previous OSCAR platform have had their details transferred automatically.

The CSFF supports projects that help develop high-quality, accessible and sustainable sporting facilities while encouraging greater participation in sport. Particular emphasis is placed on projects that support disadvantaged communities, increase opportunities for women and girls, improve accessibility for people with disabilities and promote shared community use of facilities.

Increased Funding Opportunities

This year's programme includes several important enhancements for applicants. Local projects can now apply for grants of up to €250,000, an increase on previous funding levels, while larger regional projects can seek grants of up to €550,000. A new funding tier for larger multi-sport facilities has also been introduced, with grants of up to €750,000 available for eligible projects.

Projects commonly supported through the fund include:

  • Changing room developments and upgrades
  • Accessibility improvements
  • Training facilities and floodlighting
  • Sports equipment purchases
  • Sustainability initiatives such as LED lighting and solar energy installations
  • Facility improvements that increase community participation and shared use

Start Planning Now

Clubs are strongly encouraged to begin preparing their applications well in advance of the deadline. Successful applications typically demonstrate a clear community need, strong participation benefits and alignment with the fund's objectives. Clubs should consider the long-term impact of their project, who will benefit from it and how it will enhance sporting opportunities within their community.

Before applying, clubs should ensure they have key documentation in place, including title or lease information, project cost estimates, development plans and evidence of any required match funding. Early preparation can significantly strengthen an application's chances of success.
