Captain's Call: Tadhg Beirne On Leading Ireland

Tadhg Beirne
Tadhg Beirne will add his name to the list of Ireland Captains on Saturday when he leads the team against Japan in Round 2 of the Nations Championship.

The Munster skipper was named to captain the side, which includes four uncapped players and sees significant changes from the team that beat Australia in Round 1.

Asked about the new caps he said, "To have four people winning their first cap is incredibly special. For those guys and their families. To wear the green jersey even once is special but hopefully it will be one of many for all of them. Also a huge shout out to Ronan (Keleeher) who is making fifty which is no easy feat either so it is an incredibly special one for him.

"It's on us to make it even more special by getting a win for them and putting in a performance to be proud of."

Speaking about the captaincy he said, "It is a huge honour. I've had the honour of being captain on field when our main guys aren't there but to lead the guys out from the start...I'll use the word special again, but it is for me and my family."
