Irish Rugby TV: David Nucifora On The Ireland Men’s Sevens Success In London
Ireland’s headline-grabbing third place finish at the London leg of the HSBC World Rugby Sevens Series was ‘a reflection of all the hard work of the players and staff in the Programme’ according to IRFU Performance Director David Nucifora.
Speaking about Ireland’s historic bronze medal finish in London, IRFU Performance Director David Nucifora said: “It was a great result. The boys have worked really hard for a number of years now. They took their opportunity when they got on the big stage on the weekend in London.
“It’s good for them personally and collectively as a team, but it’s just really good for the whole Sevens Programme in general. The guys have done well to get to where they got to last season in the European competition, but to do that well on the World Series has taken it to another level and people are starting to take notice now of the quality of player that we’ve got participating in the programme.”
He added: “It’s great experience ahead of the Rugby World Cup Sevens in San Francisco next month. That’s obviously a really important event for us. We’ve got the Rugby Europe season that we started a few weeks ago in Moscow, and that’s also really important for us over the coming weeks before we get to the Rugby World Cup.”
