Toner Signs Three-Year IRFU Contract To Stay At Leinster

The IRFU and Leinster are pleased to announce that Devin Toner has signed a three-year contract with the IRFU which will see him remain at Leinster until at least June 2020.

Devin Toner made his senior debut for Leinster against Border Reivers in January 2006 and has since made 187 appearances for Leinster, scoring three tries.

The giant lock made his Ireland debut in the 20-10 win over Samoa in November 2010 and has won 42 caps for his country, including the recent trio of victories over southern Hemisphere opposition – South Africa (Cape Town), New Zealand (Chicago) and Australia (Aviva Stadium).

Toner, aged 30, last lined out for Ireland against Australia in the final game of the 2016 GUINNESS Series. He was part of the RBS 6 Nations Championship-winning sides of 2014 and 2015 and has collected three Heineken Cups, an Amlin Challenge Cup and three PRO12 titles with Leinster.

IRFU Performance Director David Nucifora said: “Devin is a top class international second row and has grown into a leader for both Ireland and Leinster.  His performances for Ireland over the past number of seasons have been outstanding and he continues to show growth and an appetite to develop his game.”

Leinster Rugby CEO Mick Dawson commented: “Devin has established himself as a key player within Leinster Rugby and Ireland and securing his services is great news for both. Player retention is a huge focus and for a player of Devin’s calibre to commit to Leinster is a huge statement for us as a province and an endorsement of the work that Leo (Cullen) and the rest of the coaching staff are doing. We look forward to working with Devin over the coming years.”

Commenting on the new contract, Devin Toner stated: “I am delighted to have re-signed with the IRFU and Leinster. There is a huge amount of talent coming through at Leinster and it is a really exciting time to be involved with the province.

“There is a real opportunity to be successful at both provincial and national level over the coming years and I look forward to playing a part in helping to achieve that success.”
