Dudley Cup Triumph For UCD

Dudley Cup Triumph For UCD

UCD finished their season on a high by retaining the Dudley Cup with a comprehensive 60-21 win over Queen’s University in a most entertaining final at the Belfield Bowl.

The Dudley Cup is one of the oldest cup competitions in the country having been first played in 1903. UCD beat Dublin University and Queen’s University beat UCC in the semi-finals, setting up a Dublin-Belfast decider.

Although both sides were missing players due to representative duties for Ulster and Leinster, this was a great game of rugby played in a fine spirit.

Queen’s, who are having a wonderful season, having topped AIB League Division 3, conceded two early tries but soon got back into the game with a fine try before the break.

In the second half UCD increased the pressure and despite two further tries by Queen’s, the home side ran out convincing winners.

The trophy was presented afterwards to UCD team captain Matt Nagle by Victor Turney, the President of the IURU.
