Horan Closes In On Munster Return

Marcus Horan is set to line out for Shannon in Saturday’s ODM Munster Senior Cup semi-final against UCC as he continues his recovery from surgery to correct an irregular heartbeat.

In the wake of injuries sustained by Denis Leamy and Felix Jones in the space of a week, the good news for Munster was provided by experienced prop Marcus Horan who is on the cusp of a return to action ahead of schedule.

Horan took a full part in training at a rain-lashed and bitterly cold Musgrave Park on Tuesday and Munster coach Tony McGahan confirmed that Horan will play some part in Shannon’s ODM Munster Senior Cup semi-final clash with UCC on Saturday.

It will be his first outing since he was forced off during then first half of Munster’s Heineken Cup win over Benetton Treviso in mid-October. He complained of dizziness at the time and subsequent medical tests led to minor surgery to correct an irregular heartbeat.

Horan’s game-time with Shannon could see come into contention to return in Munster colours against the Scarlets next week.

The 32-year-old was expected to be out of action until the end of January, but his recovery is ahead of schedule with McGahan attributing that to ‘the player himself, his determination and thorough professionalism, the medical care during and after his operation and our own medical and fitness staff.’
