All Ireland Colleges Final

All Ireland Colleges Final

The 2007 All Ireland Colleges Finals will be hosted in The Garda College, Templemore on Wednesday, 28th March 2007.

The Division 1 Final will see the Garda College playing in their first ever final against three in-a-row finalists Limerick Institute of Technology.

Limerick IT contested the 2005, 2006 and now the 2007 final and won the competition against Cork Institute of Technology two years ago, but were beaten last year in Thomond Park by Athlone IT.

The Garda College reached the final after defeating the defending champions 16 – 13 in extra time in the semi finals.  The game was all square at 13pts each at full time but in extra time, cometh the hour cometh the ageless Gerry O’Sullivan from Caherciveen Rugby Club who kicked the winning penalty. This not only secured the Garda College a place in the final but also the opportunity to host the All Ireland Colleges Finals.

Limerick IT reached their third final in a row when they defeated Waterford IT 32 – 15. The star of the show for Limerick was Out Half Tadhg Bennett, who plays with Shannon and contributed 22 points.

The Division 2 Final sees the University of Ulster, Jordanstown take on Cork Institute of Technology. Jordanstown progressed to the final when they defeated Dublin Institute of Technology by the narrowest of margins 11 – 10 in Newry last Wednesday.   Cork IT reached the final by virtue of the heavy defeat of University of Ulster, Coleraine 41-0 in Monkstown last Thursday.
