Young Exiles in Under 18s For FIRA Tournament

This has been a key month for U18 Exiles representing Ireland. First of all, the U18 Clubs defeated Scotland and next up is the FIRA-AER U18 Championships in Biarritz and Dax

Our representatives (pictured) were: (back row L-R) Matt Keville (12; Richmond), Sean Dougall (6; Newcastle Falcons), Seamus McKimm (8; RGS High Wycombe), Charlie Armstrong (4; Penzance) (front row L-R) Charlie Mulchrone (9; St. Ambrose College), Joe MacManus (2; London Irish), Elliott O’Brien (10; London Wasps).

Next up is the FIRA-AER U18 Championships in Biarritz and Dax, 30 March – 8 April. Sadly, two young Exiles will not be there: Elliott O’Brien was badly concussed in the Scotland game, while Matt Keville suffered an ankle injury during the National Schools Sevens. However, that meant good news for another young Exile – Charlie Ingall, the Reading Oratory & London Wasps centre, who has been selected to join the other Exiles above. We wish all the players involved ‘good luck’, but especially we wish Elliott and Matt a speedy recovery from their injuries.

This item gives me an opportunity to apologise to our Connacht friends particularly for my miscalculation in my previous article. Connacht had, of course, the same number of players as the Exiles in the squad for the Scotland game and had, in fact, more on the starting XV! And Mathematics was my strongest subject at school…
