The BKT United Rugby Championship quarter-final match-ups, which will take place on May 30-31, are now confirmed. Munster have joined table toppers Leinster in the play-offs, while Connacht climbed above Ulster to finish 13th in the table.
Munster scored 15 points without reply during the third quarter against Benetton, as they set up a quarter-final trip to the Hollywoodbets Sharks, and secured Champions Cup rugby for next season. Replacement Josh Wycherley’s 73rd-minute try calmed any late nerves.
An excellent individual try from young centre Jude Postlethwaite was the highlight for Ulster, who struggled to contain Edinburgh’s attack at Hive Stadium, and hat-trick hero Darcy Graham in particular.
Captain Cian Prendergast led by example with the opening try, and player-of-the-match JJ Hanrahan slotted over a clinching 78th-minute penalty, as Connacht wrapped up their season on a winning note in sunny Parma.
Leinster finished eight points clear at the summit after making it 16 victories in 18 regular season matches. This was a much more low-scoring and defence-dominated contest than some anticipated, and it took a late Ciarán Frawley penalty to decide it in the hosts’ favour.
