Newcastle’s Andy Mower, the former Borders player has been drafted into Scotland’s squad in place of Budge Pountney who dramatically quit the squad a week ago. Mower wins his place at the expense perhaps of Glasgow’s Donnie MacFadyen who has been dogged by injury.

Coach Ian McGeechan (pictured) gives the uncapped Borders’ centre, 26-year-old Kevin Utterson a place in the squad, and there is also a call-up for the Leeds Tykes’ prop Gavin Kerr.

Scrum-half Bryan Redpath will captain a squad that includes the impressive Brendan Laney, rising young Borders star Nikki Walker and veteran wing Kenny Logan.

Scotland squad:
Forwards: Ross Beattie (Bristol Shoguns), Gordon Bulloch (Glasgow), Bruce Douglas (The Borders), Stuart Grimes (Newcastle Falcons), Nathan Hines (Edinburgh), Gavin Kerr (Leeds Tykes), Martin Leslie (Edinburgh Rugby), Andrew Mower (Newcastle Falcons), Scott Murray (Edinburgh), Steve Scott (The Borders), Tom Smith (Northampton Saints), Simon Taylor (Edinburgh).
