IRFU Spark Session #2 Highlight: “The Extras Are Important.”

Coaching perspective was the theme of the most recent installment of the IRFU Spark Sessions.

The series is an online player development programme for women in rugby which last week featured Anthony Eddy (IRFU Director of Women’s and Sevens Rugby), Adam Griggs (Ireland Women Head Coach) and Tania Rosser (Head Coach and Former Ireland international).

In the below excerpt from the session, Anthony Eddy talks about the importance of “the extras”

“The players know what they’re good at and what needs work,” he says.

“Sometimes I find players like to practise what they’re good at. They should be encouraged to practise what they’re not good at.

“Prepare yourself for practise so you’re getting the maximum out of your hour session. A way of doing that is when you cross the white line – maybe your attitude changes or your mentality changes where you just have a greater focus to try and be a little bit more accurate and execute the skills that you need to.”

This week the focus is on athletic performance and nutrition.

Wednesday Oct 7th, 17:30 – 18:30: Understanding Athletic Performance & Nutrition To Improve Performance.

Presenters:

  • Allan Temple-Jones (Ireland Sevens Head of Athletic Performance)
  • Orlaith Curran (Ireland Women’s XV Strength and Conditioning Coach)
  • Marcus Shortall (IRFU Performance Nutritionist)
