Energia All-Ireland League Check-In – City Of Derry

City Of Derry Head Coach Paul O’Kane is predicting a close race in Division 2C of the Energia All-Ireland League this season.

The format of the AIL means that 60% of all final league places bring with them significant consequences. The Division 2C winners are automatically promoted while the three teams below them all enter a promotion playoff.

At the other end of the table, the 10th place team faces an automatic drop out of senior rugby and a ninth place finish means a fight for survival against an up and coming junior team.

“The league is so tight,” O’Kane told IrishRugby.ie in the above video. “There’s nothing between the teams and to be honest you could probably get into a playoff spot or relegated just as easily.

“I don’t see any stragglers or weak links this year unless someone takes a dip in form or goes on a real bad run which will put them in trouble.”

Saturday December 7th,2019:
