Connacht Seal Quarter-Final Place

Connacht secured the win they needed to gain a quarter-final berth in the European Challenge Cup, beating Dax 49-3 at the Sportsground with Fionn Carr (2), Gavin Duffy, Liam Bibo, Niva Ta’auso (2) and Sean Cronin supplying the tries.

Connacht cruised into the quarter-finals of the European Challenge Cup with a seven-try demolition of Dax at the Sportsground on Friday night.

Bouncing back from last weekend’s heavy defeat to London Irish, Michael Bradley’s side led 23-3 at the interval with Fionn Carr crossing for the opening try after just four minutes.

Gavin Duffy added the second and Liam Bibo went over for his first try for Connacht as the hosts built up a big half-time lead.

Dax enjoyed their best spell after the restart but could not add to Maxime Petitjean’s earlier penalty, and Connacht pulled further ahead when Carr got his second try.

Niva Ta’auso also grabbed his first try for Connacht and after Sean Cronin touched down, Ta’auso added his second and Connacht’s seventh try in the closing stages of a one-sided encounter.
