IQ Athlete Playing Opportunity

IQ Rugby players who have the potential, commitment and drive to play Ireland may have one of the following opportunities to represent Ireland.

Underage Festivals

IQ Rugby squad competes against Irish provincial underage teams annually at the IRFU U18 Interprovincial Festival to be selected forward for the national underage programme.

Other opportunities include Inter provincial 7s tournaments, provincial playing places at U19s and U20s.

Provincial Academies

Professional rugby players competing in PRO14 & Celtic Cup.

Contracts, scholarship and intern programmes with professional rugby in Ireland.

Ireland U18/U19

Compete in annual international fixture.

Ireland U20

Compete in the annual 6 Nations & World U20 Championship

Ireland Women

Compete in Women’s Six Nations, Rugby World Cup & International fixtures

Ireland Men & Women’s 7s

Compete in World Series, Sevens World Cup & Rugby Europe competitions at age grades (U18) and seniors.

PASSPort

IQ Rugby staff will work with identified players of potential to build a PASSport profile of them as a player.

This will include to the IQ Rugby TiD across key areas of performance support.

We will also use video analysis to compare players to their Irish peers in development and potential to gain a provincial or ‘Green Jersey’.

Off-Field Development

Using the IQ Rugby TiD Cornerstones of Performance, IQ Rugby staff can identify weapons and work ons of a players needs.

We can look to remotely prepare players for an opportunity by providing on-field and off field guidance and support for players in their current environments.

Academic Links

IQ Rugby place a large emphasis on education. Off field development is a key indicator to player drive and success.

Those who have been able to proceed through to a pathway position may find further opportunities to be supported by IQ Rugby through the IRFU Foundation with potential funding support at degree, apprenticeships or other online qualifications that can assist with life beyond rugby.

(Players must be in the IRFU pathway and each case is considered separately.)

IQ Rugby are supporting players currently at UCC Cork, Queens University Belfast, Galway MIT, UCD Dublin, Trinity Dublin and Setanta College’s remote learning programme.
