Wolfhounds Put Eight Tries Past Glasgow To Stay Top Of The Pile

The Wolfhounds hold a three-point lead at the top of the table ahead of next Sunday’s showdown with second-placed Gwalia Lightning. They will be back in Cork a week on from their 52-26 dismissal of Glasgow Warriors.

Ireland international Fiona Tuite got amongst the tries at Virgin Media Park and had a big impact in the loose, earning the player-of-the-match honour in a high-scoring finish to the Celtic Challenge’s fifth round.

Giving her reaction after the Wolfhounds opened with eight tries but conceded four during the final quarter, Tuite said: “Feeling good. We started with such good momentum in that first half. We played on top, we played with pace, it was really good.

“We know we dropped off a little bit in the second half, and disappointed personally with that yellow card. But really, really happy, I thought we were absolutely motoring in that first half, and a lot to build on now for next week.

“We’ll learn a lot from it. I think we’ll have to stay really switched on during that half-time break. We’ll come out and we’ll have to launch, like we got a score really early on, but it’s about building on that – not scoring and switching off, and then letting them come on top of us.

“I think it’s mental resilience through there and just sticking to our process, rather than compounding errors on top of one another.”

Neill Alcorn’s charges have a perfect 25 points at the summit, midway through the regular season. They are the competition’s top scorers (229 points and 37 tries) and have the best defensive record so far, conceding an average of 10 points per game.
