Sam O’Donovan coolly slotted over a 71st-minute penalty to decide an absorbing Energia All-Ireland Men’s Junior Cup final in Seapoint’s favour. Dromore had fought back to draw level, but the Dubliners prevailed on a 13-10 scoreline.
The crowd at Ashbourne RFC witnessed another epic encounter between two ambitious junior clubs, with Seapoint lifting the trophy for the second time, adding to their 2007 success when Felix Jones and Aaron Dundon were try scorers.
Oisin McKenna and captain Donal McMahon touched down for Adam Philpot’s men on Saturday, while Dromore skipper Ryan Hughes claimed their only try, and Jonny Hunter kicked five points.
Seapoint kept the prized All-Ireland silverware in the capital as Bective Rangers, who went on to secure promotion back to the Energia All-Ireland League, were crowned champions twelve months ago at the same venue.
