Amee-Leigh Murphy Crowe’s first half brace of tries raised hopes for an Irish win, only for Britain, who trailed 12-7 at half-time, to triumph 21-12 thanks to second half scores from Isla Norman-Bell and captain Emma Uren.

The girls in green are quickly back in action against South Africa at 6pm Irish time (live on RTÉ 2/RTÉ Player/Eurosport via Discovery Plus).
