Ireland Sevens – Day 1 Action From Hong Kong

The Ireland Sevens teams (sponsored by TritonLake) were in action on the opening day of the Cathay/HSBC Hong Kong Sevens tournament.

Both the Ireland Men and Women posted a win and a defeat, meaning they head into tomorrow morning’s final round of the pool stages with their Cup quarter-final hopes very much alive.

James Topping’s side lost narrowly to South Africa, going down 22-17 despite a second half comeback, before beating Samoa, thanks to tries from Terry Kennedy and Zac Ward, to sit second in their pool.

Meanwhile, the Ireland Women won their opening match against South Africa, with stand-in captain Amee-Leigh Murphy Crowe touching down twice in a 20-7 victory, but shipped a 35-point loss to Australia in the second round.
