Ticket details have been announced for the 2024 HSBC SVNS Grand Final event, which will take place att Civitas Metropolitano Stadium in Madrid, Spain between May 31 and June 2.
Under the new HSBC SVNS model this season, the top eight Men’s and Women’s teams based on cumulative series points at the conclusion of the seventh round in Singapore, in early May, will secure their place in the Grand Final where the 2024 champions will emerge.
With only two rounds remaining, both Ireland teams (sponsored by TritonLake) are on track to feature in the Grand Final, with James Topping’s Men’s side sitting second in the standings following their recent bronze medal wins in Perth and Los Angeles.
Meanwhile, the Ireland Women, who enjoyed a breakthrough tournament win in Perth, are sixth overall, ahead of the resumption of the HSBC SVNS Series in Hong Kong next month (April 5-7).
Allan Temple-Jones’ charges will be looking to hit top form again after finishing ninth and eighth respectively at the last two events, during which Amee-Leigh Murphy Crowe and captain Lucy Rock both picked up injuries.
The inaugural Grand Final offers the last opportunity to see Olympic-qualified teams, including both Ireland sides, ahead of the Paris Games. Tickets, priced from €8,50, are now on sale for the Madrid decider at www.svns.com.
The eight qualifying teams will be split into two pools of four with seedings based on their position after Singapore. Pool A will comprise the first, fourth, fifth, and eighth-highest ranked teams after seven rounds of SVNS action, while the second, third, sixth, and seventh seeds will be in Pool B.
The pool winners will play the runners-up from the other pool in the semi-finals, with the podium positions decided by a final between the two semi-final winners and a third place final between the two losing semi-finalists.
The teams who finish third and fourth in their respective pools will compete in the fifth to eighth place play-offs.
While fans enjoy the entertainment around the venue, the action on the pitch will be intense from start to finish with World Rugby’s new winner-takes-all Grand Final format set to provide Sevens supporters with even more excitement, jeopardy, and entertainment than ever before.
In addition, the newly introduced high-stakes promotion and relegation play-off competition will take place simultaneously in Madrid with teams ranked ninth to twelfth in the SVNS Series competing with the top four teams from the World Rugby Sevens Challenger Series.
Away from the pitch, the hugely popular SVNS beach club will see DJs keep the energy high with a mix of dance floor fillers and classic anthems. The Sun Stage, nestled within the food market, will feature live music performances and interactive audience participation ensuring non-stop entertainment for all.
For those seeking a more premium and exclusive setting, the new next level hospitality experiences including The Sun Room and The Spring Hotel, feature premium food and drink, a full programme of fun and entertainment in private lounges, and the best seats in the house to see all the non-stop action.
World Rugby Sevens General Manager Sam Pinder commented: “Today’s announcement of the inaugural 2024 HSBC SVNS Grand Final event ticket details marks a really exciting landmark in our ambitious plans to bring the best of Sevens to new audiences and new host destinations around the world.
“We have no doubt Madrid will be fantastic hosts as the city has a first class reputation and a wealth of experience of hosting major global sport and entertainment events, and the players are looking forward to putting on a thrilling Sevens show in an iconic modern stadium.
“With more jeopardy and more at stake than ever before in a single Sevens event, fans can look forward to three days of all-action drama, elation, and emotion on the pitch, and an unmissable music, food, and entertainment line-up off it, as Sevens goes to the next level.”
