‘Massive Belief’ For Young Munster From ‘Hinch Raid

Young Munster captain Conor Mitchell says his side will take ‘massive belief’ from a dramatic victory away to Ballynahinch in Division 1A of the Energia All-Ireland League.

The Cookies came from 24-7 down to win 26-24, outscoring their hosts 19-0 in the second half. The winning try and conversion were scored by Evan Cusack, before a dramatic climax saw a ‘Hinch penalty drift wide at the death.

“It means a lot,” said Mitchell at a windy Ballymacarn Park (apologies for the quality of sound in the above video). “To know we can go away and win.

“Definitely a game of two halves that one there. Credit to Ballynahinch in the first half. They really put it to us, but in the second half I think credit to us.”

‘Hinch looked unstoppable in the first half as they scored 24 points without reply. Jordan Stewart opened the scoring for Young Munster in the first half, but it wasn’t until after the break that they found their fire – the tries coming from Conor Bartley, Fintan Coleman and Evan Cusack.

“It’s awesome to see that we can actually play that kind of rugby,” said Mitchell – a former Australians Men’s Sevens international. The 25 year old was actually handed his debut by current Connacht Rugby Andy Friend, who was Aussie Sevens coach in 2016. Ex-Wallaby Quade Cooper played alongside Mitchell at his debut tournament in Vancouver.
