Ireland Men’s Sevens Squad Continue Preparations For Hong Kong Qualifier

Members of the extended Ireland Men’s Sevens squad will travel to Italy and South Africa over the next couple of weeks, as they continue their preparations for the HSBC World Rugby Sevens Series qualifying tournament at the Hong Kong Sevens in April.

Following on from a successful Dubai 7s Invitational tournament where Ireland lifted the cup for the first time, they will keep building towards the Hong Kong event, where the winners of the tournament gains a place as a core side on the 2019/20 World Rugby Sevens Series.

Anthony Eddy, the IRFU Director of Sevens Rugby, will bring a 16-man squad to Napoli in Italy this coming Monday for a training tournament involving some of their European rivals, England, France, Germany and Italy.

Several of the players involved in the Italy trip will then depart to South Africa as part of a 15-man squad for a week-long training camp and tournament.

They will play at the Stellenbosch Academy of Sport on the Western Cape of South Africa, home of the Springbok Sevens, and will compete in a training tournament with France, Germany, Uruguay, as well as the South African 7s Academy and Stellenbosch Academy.

The Ireland Sevens jerseys are available to buy online here from Elverys Intersport, official sports retailer of the IRFU.
