Finger Injury Rules Henderson Out For ‘Several Weeks’

Iain Henderson’s man-of-the-match performance for Ulster against Leicester Tigers came at a price, as a finger injury will sideline him for several weeks according to an Ulster injury bulletin issued this afternoon.

The squad update from the Ulster medical team, following the province’s 14-13 victory at Welford Road which qualified them for March’s Heineken Champions Cup quarter-finals, contained some disappointing news for both province and country.

Iain Henderson suffered a finger injury during the game in Leicester that is likely to keep him sidelined for several weeks. This fresh injury, which is unrelated to his recently injured thumb, rules him out of Ireland’s plans for their opening Six Nations games against England and Scotland.

Ulster also confirmed that flanker Sean Reidy suffered a hand injury against Tigers which will require surgery later this week. Billy Burns (concussion) will follow the return-to-play protocols, while Marcell Coetzee will have a hamstring injury scanned today.
