Women’s All-Ireland Cup Kicks Off

The Women’s All-Ireland Cup competition gets underway this weekend with five matches in the opening round on Sunday.

Suttonians will make a little bit of club history as they play in the tournament for the first time. They host Cooke, who are currently sixth in the Women’s All-Ireland League standings.

The top three in the league – UL Bohemians, cup holders Railway Union and Old Belvedere, have a bye in the first round. The Red Robins are at home to Railway in the next round.

St. Mary’s, who are currently winless in the league but improving with each round, will hope that their trip to Ballynahinch can kick-start the second half of the season.

Philip Doyle’s Blackrock side are also on the road for the opening round as they travel to Shannon. The winners of that game will face ‘Belvo in the next round. Tralee host former cup winners Galwegians, who lifted the trophy in 2014, while Tullow are at home to Malone.
